When Lenny's girlfriend dies, he feels compelled to replace her. He needs to shut out her haunting presence. Genevieve, vulnerable and in need of rescue from an abusive partner, provides an ideal distraction. Lenny falls head over heels in love. He brings Genevieve into his world of sex films and live performance. She becomes the star. Memories of the past relationship, combined with the repeating motifs in the present, urge Lenny to break away from the world of sex and burlesque. Genevieve however, has blossomed. Enjoying the decadence and glamour of the club scene, Genevieve becomes powerful and indulgent in her fantasies. When Lenny unveils his plan to escape, Genevieve refuses to co-operate. 'It's not about love, this was never anything to do with love.' |
